How to Choose the Right Fragrance for Your Skin Type
Share
Have you ever sprayed a perfume in-store, loved it, and then noticed it smells completely different on your skin an hour later? You're not imagining it. Your skin type plays a huge role in how a fragrance develops and how long it lasts. Here's how to find your perfect match.
Why Skin Type Matters
Fragrance reacts with your skin's natural oils, pH levels, and moisture. This is why the same perfume can smell divine on one person and flat on another. Understanding your skin type is the first step to finding a scent that truly works for you.
Oily Skin
Good news — oily skin holds fragrance longer because the natural oils help lock in the scent. You can get away with lighter concentrations and still enjoy all-day wear. Floral, fruity, and fresh scents work beautifully on oily skin.
Tip: Apply to pulse points and let the warmth of your skin do the work.
Dry Skin
Dry skin tends to absorb fragrance quickly, meaning your scent may fade faster. Opt for richer, deeper fragrances — think musks, woods, and orientals. Better yet, choose an Extrait de Parfum (like all Scented Affair fragrances) for maximum longevity.
Tip: Moisturise before applying your perfume to create a base that holds the scent longer.
Sensitive Skin
If your skin reacts easily, stick to fragrances that are free from harsh irritants. Always do a patch test before wearing a new scent. Apply to clothing rather than directly on skin if needed.
Tip: Our fragrances are formulated to IFRA standards for safe wear.
Normal/Combination Skin
You have the most flexibility! Most fragrance families — florals, citrus, gourmands, and woods — will work well. Experiment freely and find what resonates with your personality.
The Golden Rule: Always Test on Your Skin
Never buy a fragrance based on the bottle or someone else's recommendation alone. Spray it, wait 15–30 minutes for the dry-down, and then decide. Your skin is unique — your scent should be too.
